Network, Wifi, and Bluetooth

During our game test, the strong 13 5G bands network coverage and VoNR capabilities of the Motorola G85 significantly boosted gaming performance by ensuring uninterrupted connectivity.

  • Bluetooth 5.1 and Wi-Fi 6 work great with no issues. Bluetooth supports AAC connection, providing excellent bass and sound quality.
  • No NFC, Dual Dolby speakers but 3.5mm headphone jack is not available with Moto G85 you have to buy earbuds.

  • The Motorola G85 has great Curve LTPS display which is most highlighted thing and really it gives premium look and feel. 240Hz (300+ is best) touch sampling rate which response average in BGMI.
  • The 1600 nits peak brightness provides better visibility outdoors. We can play games and do other tasks outdoors easily, enhancing gaming performance.
  • HDR10 display but it doesn’t support HDR on YouTube and Netflix videos so where we use peak brightness.

Motorola G85: Graphics GPU and Touch Sampling Rate

A mobile phone requires good graphic hardware for better graphic support and G85 has not a gaming gpu. The Motorola G85 is equipped with an Adreno 619 GPU, Not ideal for decent gaming it provides lower frame rate.

Weight

  • The weight of the Motorola G85 is 171g, which is under 200g. Since this phone is on the lighter side, playing games is easy.
  • When I played for an hour, I didn’t feel any pain in my hand. In terms of weight, I can say it has good grip and premium feel also enhance your gaming performance for long time.

Processor

Honestly this processor is not for heavy gaming but it can handle it at lower settings. I haven’t seen any lag during daily uses and day to day task.

Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 is same as 695 only over clocked, means little bit better than 695.

It gives smooth UI experience and It can handle all social network Instagram Facebook YouTube etc.

RAM – LPDDR4X

The Motorola G85 has LPDDR4X RAM in this range it is good. Higher RAM type consumes less energy and offers more power-saving capabilities, providing smooth multitasking and app switching.

Storage – UFS 2.2

  • The Motorola G85 has UFS 2.2 storage. This storage type is somewhat disappointing, as some brands offer UFS 3.1 at this price.
  • However, It has 13 5G bands but, the 5G downloading speed does not perform up to the mark as its has UFS 2.2.

Motorola G85 – Antutu and Geekbench Scores

  • Antutu score: 485,975
  • Geekbench Single core score: 941
  • Geekbench Multi-core score: 2,112
  • CPU Throttling: 90% of peak performance

Benchmark

The above Geekbench and Antutu scores indicate lower scores and performance for a mobile phone under this price range.

Its real-world performance is satisfactory, allowing you to play Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) and PUBG Mobile at lower settings smoothly.

For graphically demanding games like Genshin Impact, it lags and gives poor gaming experience.

Gameplay

  • My Motorola G85 delivered average performance during a one-hour BGMI session with smooth + Ultra settings at 40fps.
  • I experienced minimal lag and no significant heating issues. The phone maintained a consistent frame rate, delivering 38-40 FPS during TDM matches and 35-40 FPS throughout gameplay on various maps like Erangel, Sanhok, and Livik.
  • Occasional frame drops to 35 FPS occurred, but the phone quickly recovered to its smooth performance.

COD, Free Fire, Fortnite and Genshine Impact Review

  • With Moto G85, Free Fire runs at 60 fps at lower graphic settings gives smooth gameplay but with longer session it throttle, in my advice use this phone with 40fps.
  • COD supports 40fps gaming provide good gaming experience with bezel less display but it getting worm and throttle too during gaming.
  • Fortnite and genshine impact both runs but at lower graphics and lowest frame rate. And lags too much as well.

Overall, this real-world BGMI and COD mobile test demonstrates that this phone is not for heavy game and not for heavy performance task.

Battery: 5000mAh

  • The battery plays a major role for every gamer. It comes with a 5000mAh battery with a 33W charger which is available in the box.
  • The battery drain was 17% after an hour of play, and the phone remained cool even with the highest settings. You can play games non-stop for 4 hours and perform any heavy tasks. For normal day-to-day life with social apps, it can last one day easily.
  • The 33W charger takes 56 minutes to fully charge, which is decent. So, in the battery department, it performs well and gives you long gameplay.

Conclusion

The Motorola G85 is a solid mid-range option for casual gamers who prioritize a balance between performance, battery life, and affordability. However, if you’re a hardcore gamer who needs top graphics and frame rates, you might want to consider phones with more powerful hardware.

If you want to buy this one I suggest you to buy Iqoo Z9 or you can buy Motorola Edge 50 Fusion because the price difference is not much and you buy it once in a 2 to 3 years.
